New ceramics project.

I'm not sure about it.

But I just got these photos from a classmate.

And wanted to share.

While I was making these, I got really into the details of the wings. We went to go see the butterflies go free at the Botanical Gardens, and I became aware of how this quilt that my mom made, Hearthrug for Hestia
, kind of looks like one giant butterfly wing. I thought that was a nice idea, and I love this quilt maybe more than anyTHING, so I wanted to share it too.

I thought that our kitchen looked nice with the new cross stitch, the judy martin deck sketch, the little lambs that may be gifts,

all of the coloured fruit, the back-to-life maiden hair & rare (in our house) purple tulips.

Ceramics Show

These images come from the ceramics group show at Concordia that I participated in. It was in early February??? But a post is a post right?

In class we were asked to create vessels. I took inspiration from the islands in my life, Manitoulin and Montreal. I thought about these islands as boats, floating in freshwater.

Constructed precariously, inspired by roller coasters

and manmade islands…

sedmintary slabs,

and love triangles.

new inspiration

these images are all inspiration for a new sculpture project involving crochet and casts of my arms. i enjoy the fact that they are all women artists who work in a variety of materials.

judy chicago. grand hands of choice. 2007 - really inspired by the colours she used. this is glass, but it got me thinking of resin.

rachel whiteread. water tower. 1998 - 1999. - so monumental, and so light. resin.

I love rooftops.

shary boyle. untitled. 2004 - shary boyle is the best. this got me thinking about cats cradle. when we visited aunty mary in whitehorse she helped me take out a book on cats cradle. we were on an epic roadtrip of course...

shary boyle. the sighted. 2009 - l love her ability to use different materials, especially her use of feminine handicraft. This is actually inspiration for a new ceramics project.

kiki smith. constellation. 1996. - this too is inspiration for ceramics, the stars.

kiki smith. moon. 1996 - this image is quite poor, from a book my mom gave me. i love her drawings.

and this is the piece that i am working on combining these elements. i also have some moulds, but those images are far from exciting, and the work involved is almost excruciating. but i am excited to learn and really excited about the outcome.
will keep you posted!

maybe you can't really tell...

After the break, I really wanted to clean up after all of the craft fairs.

I wanted to show off how well I had done! Organizing and minimizing is very difficult. I found that it went much deeper... I rearranged all of my storage shelves, and got rid of a lot there too.

But these photos really only show that I don't have a very good camera. And that the tidyness didn't last long. But the thing is, is that it is so much more organized in here! You just have to be here to see it. I'm serious! Closet doors actually close now.... I have been much more creative in here since the big clean. Even if I am the only one who can tell the difference.
